MGCCQ HILLCLIMB SERIES, Rd 6, 5 - 6 November, 2022

FINAL ROUND FOR 2022 HILLCLIMB SERIES by Malcolm Spiden

 

The final round for the 2022 Mount Cotton Hillclimb series was held on 5 and 6 November. With several of the more fancied runners not present it was an opportunity for others to shine.
 

Driving his Homebuilt DPQ03 Formula Libre racing car David Quelch set the Fastest Time of Day with a 41.74 second run and followed this by claiming the Top Six Shootout at the end of the meeting in 42.37 second.  Greg Tebble was next fastest with a 44.62 then Mick Harders with a best run of 45.73 seconds.
 

The fastest sedan was Gavin Taylor in his Volkswagen Golf with a 45.96 time from Ken Graham (Datsun 1600 SSS, 46.11) and Adrian Purcell (Subaru WRX turbo, 46.12). Rod Thomas (Mazda MX-5) and Dave Roberts (MGB V8) both recorded a 48.16 second with the next fastest being Jeff Graham in his Supercharged Mazda MX -5 in a best time of 48.62 seconds.
 

New drivers to the circuit included Winifred March and Brett March from Gladstone. This is their second hillclimb event following their introduction to this grass roots discipline of the sport at the Gold Mile event at Mt Morgan. New addition was Mick Harders in his 125 cc engine Esprei KZ who improved his times from 52.69 to a 45.73 seconds by the end of the competition.

 

New cars included the Spreads RM11 of Greg Tebble replacing his FF2000 Formula Ford. Using the weekend to familiarise himself with a new chassis and engine. With a cautious start Greg improved his times from a 53.72 to 44.62 in the main competition then a 44.83 in the Top Six Shootout.

Regularity class went to Lindsay Derriman from Robert Souter and Cassie McQuilken.
​

Top Six were David Quelch, Greg Tebble, Mick Harders, Brendan Merrick, Doug Anable and Adrian Purcell.

Points leader for the 2022 Mount Cotton Hillclimb Series, Brad Smith continued to win his class, Circuit Hyundai Excel X3 and thus will be the winner of the series.
