COTTON'S CREATIONS//SEQ TOWING/FLY ENGINES - 2025 Queensland Hillclimb Championship  - Mt Cotton Hillclimb, promoted by the MG Car Club of Qld. Inc.
24 - 25 May, 2025

 

Through an initiative from the Redland City Council the inaugural Redlands Coast AdventureFest festival was held over a 10 day period from 16 to 25 May. The festival presented an action packed programme of epic events and experiences across the naturally wonderful Redlands Coast. The SEQ Towing-Cottons Creations-FLY Engines 2025 Queensland Hillclimb Championship was an event in this programme.
 

After many days and weekends of rain in the South East Queensland area the sun shined and beautiful weather conditions prevailed on the weekend of 24-25 May. An appreciative crowd basking in the sun watched the action on the track.
 

Fastest of the 17 Formula Racing Cars and winner of the championship was Dean Amos with his best run of 36.34 seconds in his Gould GR55B Nicholson-McLaren V8 from Dean Tighe in his turbocharged Empire Wraith (37.40 seconds), Warwick Hutchinson (OMS 28 powered by a turbocharged Rotary in 37.72 seconds), Ross Mackay (Macspec, 38.64 seconds), teenage driver Connor Tebble in the Speads RM11 (40.79 seconds), Neil Lewis (Fly -001, 40.89 seconds), Luke Weiks (Empire 001, 41.36 Jim Milliner (OMS 2000M, 41.54), David Quelch (Homebuilt DPQ03, 43.58), Ed McCane (OMS CF04, 43.66) being the top ten.  
 

Fastest of the Sedan type cars was Tim Blake in his Subaru Impreza WRX with a best run of 45.05 seconds from Peter Akers (Subaru Impreza, 46.29), Gavin Taylor (VW Golf, 46.39), Ken Graham (Datsun 1600 SSS, 46.43), Brendan Merrick (Datsun 120Y turbo, 47.49).

Quickest of the Sports cars was Michael Larymore in his Toyota MR2 turbocharged in 44.77 seconds, with Zaid Latif (Lotus Exige, 46.43) then Terry Sprotson (Aussie Race Car, 47.83).
 

A class record to Roy Davis who lowered his Group T record for Historic Sports Cars from 47.35 seconds to 47.07 then 47.06 seconds.

Ross Mackay joined the sub 40 seconds being the 29 th driver to record a sub 40 second time with his 39.59 time, then 38.64 seconds.

John English Trophy for the fastest time by a Queenslander: Dean Tighe
 

Glyn Scott Perpetual Trophy for Fastest time by a Sports Car: Michael Larymore
 

Vince Appleby Trophy for fastest time by a Sedan: Tim Blake

Paul Aitken Trophy for Best Average Time by a Motor Cycle powered car: Luke Weiks
 

Best MG Historic Group L: Craig Carlson, MGTC Special
 

Best MG up to 2000 ccs: Stephen Callaghan, MGB
