CLUB RUNS

The Club offers its members the opportunity to take part in two types of runs. One is the Day Run held on various Sundays throughout the year and the other is the Mid-week run held regularly on the fourth Wednesday of each month. There is also one weekend away, usually held in July. These runs are organized to allow time for socializing as well as enjoying a drive with fellow enthusiasts.

Details of meeting times and places for the runs are advertised on the Calendar page of this website and also in the Octagon. A contact name is always given so that you can check on the latest details of the run.

Most participants drive their MG but other makes are not excluded. Below are reports and photos of some recent runs held by MG Car Club.

MIDWEEK RUN REPORT – 27 MARCH 2024

Our April midweek run participation was quite small due to a clash with the MG National Meeting in Tamworth and also not helped by illness & bad weather. However in true midweek run tradition, 15 of our members turned up in nine cars. John Davidson had the distinction of being the only “real MG” starter in his MGB GT.

We met at Woodford & after morning tea & plenty of talk, we departed at around 10:30. The weather was reasonably kind to us, but still made it difficult to appreciate the beautiful country scenery on the back roads west & north of Kilcoy. After arriving at Linville, we had a wander around the old railway station which is opposite the historic Linville Hotel. The decision was taken not to proceed further along Linville Road as there had been a lot of rain in the area & there was a risk of flooded roads.

We headed back to our lunch stop at the Moore Café in the tiny township of the same name, where David & Meryl Miles were waiting for us.

New owners Barbara & Darren provided tasty lunches for all, and we hope to return there in the future. It was suggested that we use this route again, maybe next year, when we would have better participant numbers & hopefully better weather. All things considered it was still an enjoyable day, made possible by the typical happy attitude of our group.

MGCCQ MIDWEEK RUN 24 APRIL 2024

BY SUE PANUCCIO & TREVOR PENSON

A busy start at Springfield Lakes with the carpark full to overflowing with plenty of catching up to do over a cuppa before we headed off. A good number of MG’s on this run.

Trevor Jones kindly offered to lead the run but a combination of road works and creative interpretation saw some of us take a more scenic route. Most of us enjoyed a stop at the Café Lovett at Kalbar & a look at the old buildings in town, followed by a lovely diversion to look at the sunflowers.

Fred Haigh Park at Lake Moogerah was a lovely spot to lunch looking out across the dam to the mountains beyond. Another great midweek run enjoyed by all.

MIDWEEK RUN REPORT -  WEDNESDAY, 28 FEBRUARY 2024

The first Wednesday run for 2024 started from Hays Landing Recreation Area on the south eastern shore of Lake Wivenhoe with participants making their own travel arrangements to get there either from the south via the Brisbane Valley Highway or from the north via Mount Glorious.

Feedback about travel conditions to the start point from many members was very favourable. Hays Landing was also our morning tea venue.

The weather was fine and the morning tea area was comfortable. Most participants arrived between 9:30AM – 10:00AM and moved quickly into “catchup chatter” mode after the three months break since the last run in November 2023.

Prior to departure Club Captain Don Webster addressed the troops and imparted information on the assistance that will be required within the Club during the coming year. Run Coordinator Jeff Heslewood also reminded members that there was still a vacancy for setting the June run.

After a quick brief on the run sheet by Barry, Don & Ann Webster and David & Meryl Miles left for Brisbane and we were finally on our way.

The run took us through the West Moreton and Somerset regions. Recent rains were responsible for the magnificent, lush green pastures to the east of Lake Wivenhoe and to the west of Lake Somerset.

The views of those lakes and later the partial views of the Glass House Mountains and Moreton Bay from our ascent up Mount Mee were a true delight to the eyes.

On arrival at lunch at McGavin View Park on the eastern end of Lake Samsonvale we were met by John and Pat Walker. The catchup chat from morning tea continued over lunch.

Thank you everyone for your wonderful company and especially your kind comments after the run.
