DARLING DOWNS CHAPTER
Established September, 2005

The MG Car Club was formed in 1954, the club is composed of motoring enthusiasts who enjoy all makes of motor vehicles, not just MGs and provides activities for all aspects of motoring, sporting, and social.

The Darling Downs Chapter was formed in September 2005, and since that date the chapter has grown strongly with a growing list of members in Toowoomba, Warwick and as far west as Roma, who, enjoy access to all the benefits of the parent body at a reduced membership rate.

MG Car Club of Queensland promotes sporting and concourse events at a State and National level in addition to a strong calendar of club activities, technical and historic information can be accessed from the club web site.

Darling Downs' members enjoy regular monthly day runs and midweek lunch meetings,  (organised by our Midweek Run Conveners). Day runs commence on the last Sunday of the month from various locations. Details of all runs are included in the "What's On" link on the MG Car Club website.

10 April - Lunch Run

By Marilyn Keating

Our bi-monthly lunch run was held on Wednesday 10 April at the Oakey RSL Club.  This Club is well known for its great meals at reasonable prices and is always well supported by their own members and guests alike.  It is always advisable to make a booking if you wish to have your lunch or dinner there.

21 Darling Downs members met at 12 noon, driving 9 MG’s, 1 Daimler SP250 and 3 modern vehicles.  Parking was a bit all over the place, so unfortunately no photo of the cars for this event.

The weather in Oakey can be quite cool, so after the initial greetings outside the Club, it was soon time to calm the hunger pangs and proceed inside for lunch.

The usual chatter, problem solving and laughter echoed throughout the dining room.  A couple of relaxing hours went by before it was decided that the time had come to leave for home.  A quick photo was taken before we were on our merry way.

BREAKFAST RUN – SUNDAY, 25 FEBRUARY, 2024

By Gene and Faye Lucas

A good rollup of 16 cars met at Picnic Point, Toowoomba, at 8.15am on Sunday 25th February for the Darling Downs Chapter run to The Barn.  2 more cars joined us at The Barn for a hearty breakfast and healthy conversation.  By 10.30am we were on the road back up the range via Upper Flagstone to the New England Highway, then to Greenmount.  We turned off to Mount Sibley and joined the Heifer Creek Road at Hirstglen.  We crossed the many bridges and followed the winding range road to the Lockyer Valley and onto Gatton to Lake Apex for a late morning tea/early lunch.

A shower of rain on the way wet a few heads but it was a very enjoyable drive.

Attendees:
Ray & Susanne Edwards, Gene & Faye Lucas, Ron & Judy Gillis, Owen & Kay Douglas, Brian & June Phillips, Trevor & Karen Martin, Pat Bermingham, Jim Carstens, Andrew & Susan Willesden, Janis Lawrence, Ian & Jenny Roberts, Rob Fraser, Andrew & Sally Sainsbury, Peter & Jenny Wild, Gaye Hawkshaw & Debbie Schier, Malcolm & Barb Campbell, Paul Eaton and Kevin Wruck

Twilight Run – Sunday, 28 January 2024

Our first event of the year, after a break since November, was a twilight run organised by Glen and Bev Hadfield.  With the recent volatile weather, we weren’t sure if the storms would affect the drive, but it managed to stay dry for the afternoon.  Instead, the dark skies on the horizons served to make the drive even more scenic.

Meeting in Toowoomba near the Greg Ritchie Oval, twenty-four members and friends headed south and along the ridges of Preston Boundary and Sawpit roads to eventually drop down into the rolling hills around Ramsay.  Keeping one eye on the road and the other on the distant storms, the run took us through the villages of Greenmount, Cambooya and Wyreema before heading back into Drayton for dinner.  All arrived safely, and together (we have been known to lose a couple on the first run of the year).

Good food, drinks and a great catch up were enjoyed at Rink 46, formerly Drayton Bowls Club, which has been newly renovated.  All in all, an enjoyable finish to the week and start to a new year of motoring and socialising for the Chapter.

Participants were:
Michael & Marilyn Keating (MGBGT) Mal & Barbara Campbell (PT Cruiser) Ron & Judy Gillis (CX3) Gaye Hawkshaw, Debbie & Lois (Camry) Pat Bermingham (Honda HRV) Juanita Keegan (Mercedes Benz 180) Andrew & Susan Willesden (MGB) Gene & Faye Lucas (MGTD) Owen Douglas (MGB) Narelle Fraser & Janis Lawrence (MGB) Rob Fraser (Mini) Glen & Bev Hadfield (VW Polo)
