The Wide Bay Chapter of the MG Car Club Queensland is
the oldest of the Club’s established Chapters and is now
in its seventh year of operation. It was founded in 2004
by a circle of dedicated MG marque enthusiasts located
in Hervey Bay and celebrates its anniversary every
Australia Day when, by Presidential fiat, it was brought
into official existence. Since then, it hasn’t looked
back! The Chapter’s area of influence includes the rural
cities of Bundaberg, Maryborough, Hervey Bay and Gympie,
as well as the smaller country towns between. If you are
young at heart, fancy the MG Marque, reside in our area
and relish company, come and join us at the MGCCQ (Wide
Bay Chapter). New Chapter Coordinator is Darrell Martin, Phone: 07 4193 4151.

MGCCQ Wide Bay Chapter
- NOVEMBER - DECEMBER, 2011 NEWSLETTER:
And
just where has that year gone ?
Yes, in the blink of an eye another year of
hectic activity has closed for the Wide Bay Chapter.
2011 started with a quick Twilight Run before
moving on to our highly successful Australia Day BBQ at Legacy
House, attended by over 50 people. Other regular runs then
commenced with gusto with more BBQs, Fish n Chips, country
jaunts, lunches, wineries and morning coffees than we thought
possible.
The year also saw several successful long trips
away, including the David Hack Memorial Day in Toowoomba, the
McLean's Bridge at Lakeside event and a somewhat cool trip to
Stanthorpe and its wonderful restaurants and wineries. A few of
our Chapter also headed out west with what was reported to be a
great Darling Downs Chapter event.
Of course, as usual for our Chapter, several runs
to local dams were included during the year where our members
could relate seemingly never ending stories of the fish they
almost caught there … and everywhere!
An integral and growing group within our Chapter
are those who live a little further north of Hervey Bay in
Bundaberg and its surrounds. While they were able to join the
Hervey Bay based owners for many events, the distances involved
can be a problem when runs venture south of the Bay area. The
active Bundaberg crew therefore run numerous stand alone
functions which ensure that MG friendship blossoms in that
area. |

Where
possible, others in the Chapter also travel up to Bundaberg to
join in their activities. A lot of fun was had by all who
attended the Bundaberg Show … and rumours that they only did so
to drive the Showgirls around the ring are totally without
foundation.
There
has also been some competition work coming out of our Chapter.
Allan Dansie has been campaigning his Midget with vigour and the
sound of Bill Manns' V8 MGB GT, driven by both Bill and Dave
Roberts, instils fear in the hearts of all those who hear it.
The final
Chapter run for the year was conducted by the Bundaberg group on
20 November when seven cars assembled for a scenic beach run.
Planned and led by Bill and Cheryl McCollum, this run headed to
Burnett Heads and eventually Innes Park for a picnic lunch .
Our Chapter's
programme for the first half of 2012 has now been organised ,
again with more things to do than it is possible to fit on our
calendar. However, the Bundaberg group are starting off with a
run to Monduran Dam on 8 January while on the same day the
Hervey Bay based group will be having Fish n Chips near the Pier
on the Esplanade.
The
first joint run for the year will be the Luigi Bryant Run,
taking in the Teddington Weir (probably in flood) and a relaxing
pub lunch at Torbanlea. It has been suggested that to honour
Ian Bryant this should be an observation run to count the number
of southern blue and white number plates seen on the day. And,
of course, we are again having our Australia Day BBQ at Legacy
House in Bryant Street, Hervey Bay.
If you
are in the area come along and have a drive with us … we can
guarantee you a good time and a warm welcome. |
