Carselling.com.au Queensland Hillclimb Championships 4/5 June 2011
Practice on Saturday indicated great promise for fantastic
competition on Sunday and none of the large crowd in attendance were
disappointed. Highlights were the shattering of the outright record
by Brett Hayward of Victoria when he reduced it from 37.42 (set by
Peter Gumley in 2007) to 36.57, the addition of two new members to
the Under 40s Club (Brett Hayward and Rod Moody, both from Victoria),
class records falling like dominoes resulting in five classes with
new records and a total of 6 competitors achieving sub 40s runs.
Despite a twelve month absence from Mt Cotton, Alan McConnell did sub
40s times on 5 of his 6 runs while Warwick Hutchinson achieved his
first sub 39s run with a stunning 38.71.
Class records were broken by:
Ross Rundle (Group V) who broke the previous record five times
before achieving his best time of 52.22 on his final run.
Mike Allen (Group S) who had to contend with Steve Purdy's
successes in also breaking the record before finally achieving a sub
50s run to set the record at 49.79, ready for the tussle to begin
again next time.
David Jones (Closed sports cars up to 2000cc) who reduced Jim Peall's record of 51.67 set in 2004 to 51.29.
Terry
Johns (Formula Ford) who waited until his last run to set a time of
44.41 thus snatching the record from his 'co-driver' Jack Bellotti
who had broken Jamie McHugh's 1991 record with a 44.70 earlier in
the day.
Brett Hayward (Formula Libre 1301-2000cc) broke this class record
(previously held by Alan McConnell) on each of his three runs
culminating in his 36.57, the first time a sub 37s time has been seen
at Mt Cotton
