TIGHE CAMS HILLCLIMB, ROUND 2, Saturday & Sunday, 17 - 18 APRIL, 2010
Competitors at the
second round of the Tighe Cams series were able to make
three runs on Saturday afternoon and three on Sunday. Saturday
was a perfect hillclimb day and most cars stayed safely on track.
Sunday was a different matter with early morning rain resulting in slower
runs then, when the track had dried, a number of competitors had "offs'"
onto the grass or "ins" into the nuts resulting in a number of delays.
Despite all this a number of competitors went home delighted with their
personal bests while Bill Norman went home with a new class record of 40.69s, a
time which he annihilated in the Top Six competition when he made hillclimb
history by
being the first sports car driver to complete the course under
the magic 40s. Bill's sub-40 time was 39.75, more than a second faster
than his previous best. Bill is now the 15th member of the prestigious
'Under 40s Club'.
Making its first appearance at the hillclimb in more than twenty
years was John Davies' Robb Kawasaki with Ian Fettes in the driving seat.
Despite some teething troubles Ian managed to persuade it to complete
one run on the Saturday. Maybe some more cobwebs will be blown out before
its next hillclimb appearance.
Another form of history was made when Chad Kirkby took out the
'Most Improved Award' for the best performance by a first-time driver
at the hillclimb, an award his father, Brian, had won almost exactly a
year ago. They are pictured at the presentation of trophies with Club
President, Peter May.
