Tighe Cams series Rd 1, 19/20 February.
Once again the weather tried to dominate the weekend; not rain this time
but exceptional heat. Despite this, Warwick Hutchinson managed to go sub-40
to win FTD and his class and then, at the end of Sunday, the Top Six. A
highlight of the weekend for the Johns and Hamilton families was the
success of Terry Johns in breaking Vern Hamilton's long-standing class
record for Sports 1300 cars.
Terry showed that the time was not a fluke as
he later broke his new record, making him an early leader for the Tighe
Cams Series for 2011. At the presentation of trophies there was the very
tangible award of $500 for this achievement from the MGCCQ along with his
trophy and bubbly and then a special presentation of a Hillclimb history
book with an addendum to the Records page from the Hamiltons.

The sight of Bill Norman in a conventional racing car (an historic Lola
Formula Ford) took some getting used to but Bill quickly showed his
adaptability by posting good times straight off in it.
With the non-appearance of some of the regular Top Sixers there was the
opportunity for others to have that desirable extra run at the end of
Sunday's competition. Warwick Hutchinson was the victor with other
competitors being John Boyce, Michael Ciccotelli, Paul Van Wijk, Terry
Johns and Simon Lake. Other major trophies were won by Steve Purdy (Best MG) and Patrick Hager
(Most Improved - for best first-timer at the hillclimb).
