SUCCESS AT NATIONAL MEETING

Our Club is coming home with two major trophies, the Wratten and the Nuffield. Our website has also won the inaugural award for Best Website. John Walker also won the Chris Dodds Memorial Trophy and Ross Kelly won the TC Owners Perpetual Pre War Plate

Congratulations and thanks to those who made the trip to Adelaide and contributed to our wins and also to our wonderful web mistress, Glenda Crew.

SWAP MEET & OPEN DAY

The third annual Open Day/Swap Meet was held at Mt Cotton on Sunday, 20th June. Eager sellers and buyers were in abundance before the advertised starting time of 7.30am and by 8am the centre and back sections of the pits were full of swap meet regulars. They were joined at 9am by those on the Club run organised by John Tait and all arrived having enjoyed another of John's now legendary runs. These cars plus a number of other MGs which came directly to the venue formed a colourful and varied display with the models ranging from an MGY to an MGZT with a couple of standout specials such as Chris Carswell's MGC roadster amongst them as well. (A report and photos from the run will be on the Social pages.) While this isn't a great revenue raiser for the Club, it is a relaxed social day and also an opportunity to show off our venue to others who wouldn't normally visit there. Thanks go to Lucien Lloyd-West for taking the following photographs (on the gatekeeper's camera).

MORE WORK AT CLUBROOMS

At the Noggin 'n' Natter on Friday July 16, Roger Paltridge (pictured with helper Peter Smith) installed new units for use in the Regalia shop and we thank him for his work and generosity in this. Those who came along on the night either to help with this work, to take part in the regular night navigation run or just to socialise benefited from more generosity, this time from Gregg Clarke of Pizza Capers who provided samples of his business's products to those in attendance.

CONCESSIONAL REGISTRATION UPDATE OF INFORMATION

Recently I was asked by a couple of members to seek clarification from Queensland Transport as to whether or not our members are permitted, under the restrictions of Special Interest Vehicle Registration (commonly referred to as 'Concessional Registration'), to drive their concessionally registered cars to the Clubrooms on a Friday night for the weekly Friday night Noggin 'n' Natters. The guidelines which are published on the Qld Transport website and the letters which those with cars on this type of registration received from Qld Transport last year certainly did not give a clear indication of whether or not this usage was permitted. Please click here to read the response from Queensland Transport in full.

JUNIOR DRIVER INITIATIVE

New Committee member and well-known hillclimber, Neil Lewis, has put together a Junior Development Program for pre-licence age youngsters with the aims of fostering interest in motorsport and club camaraderie and assisting young people in gaining a basic understanding of how to use a motor vehicle in a safe and sensible way. He intends to devise a training plan for each participant based on their current abilities. He is also hoping that this program will encourage younger members to our Club.

In keeping with his goal of making the tuition highly individual, only four participants were accepted into the first get together of the first group to undertake his program on November 21st in the pit area of the hillclimb. The Chief Steward of the meeting sat in on the discussion/tuition session and was so impressed that he highly commended Neil's program in his Steward's report. The photos below are from the training session which included a 'walk and talk' around the hillclimb circuit. For more information contact Neil Lewis on 3807 6273.
