SEPTEMBER, 2010 NEWSLETTER:

Report Christmas in July Function/Monthly Run, 24/25 Jul 2010
The run on the last weekend in July took us to join the Wide Bay Chapter and the Brisbane push at the Kondari Resort in Wide Bay for the Christmas in July event. Eight cars, and their human cargo, met at Hampton with the intention of setting out not a minute later than 0900. What’s more, for once the intention became fact. Morning tea at Cooyar, lunch at Goomeri and we then travelled via Kilkevan and Maryborough to Hervey Bay. Trevor lead the group through to Maryborough, and by default right through to the Kondari Resort. It had been suggested that Fern might make use of her local knowledge but she had an aversion to hogging the limelight and, when she did drive forward to present herself, she was spurned by her closest follower and subsequently by all the followed after that. Despite the DD contingent emphatically not winning the best dressed table competition, those from Brisbane with their killer instinct being far too good for their country cousins, and even though only taking out one of the lucky ticket prizes the people of the Downs had a most enjoyable night. Those who had the dubious honour of chasing the karaoke event at the end of the evening may have had a different take on it. Grateful thanks must also go to those that collect forgotten cameras at the end of such an evening. The value provided by the Kondari Resort was outstanding as also was the effort put into the event by the organisers. The Le Mans start, which occurred the following morning and set all cars off on the run to the museum in Maryborough (surely one of the best presented regional collections and with a delightful morning team provided) worked quite smoothly as did the subsequent guiding and parking at each location. That the subsequent relocations and parking, involving so many cars, many with little idea of where they were going, worked so well with so little fuss, was due to the excellent planning and guidance undertaken by the Wide Bay folks.

Report Midweek Run, 11 Aug 2010
It was great to see so many people at Rudd’s Pub at Nobby as we have had a couple of hitches with attendances lately. Rudd’s Pub is an interesting place to pass a couple of hours with friends, both old and new. It was wonderful seeing Helen Goodfellow again. We were also very happy to welcome new members Leona and Jim Keyes, and Helen and John Coverdale to our group. We hope they enjoyed their ‘introduction’ to this regular club function.

The lunch run for September has been replaced by the 10 day run to New South Wales, and the run for October has been replaced by the trip to Kingaroy.

The next lunch run will be on 10 November at the Club Hotel in Clifton.

Monthly Run, 29 Aug 2010
The August monthly run on Sunday 29 Aug 10 will take us to the Festival of Flight at Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield where we can join all the old aircraft in an atmosphere of nostalgia and enjoyment. We will leave TIC at 0900 sharp and travel directly to the airfield where we will have morning tea prior to enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of the warbirds and other historic aircraft. Lunch (hamburgers, steak sandwiches etc.) can be purchased locally or you can, if you wish, bring your own picnic lunch. We shall travel down via Hampton, Esk and Toogoolawah to Watts Bridge Airfield. Should anyone wish to join at Hampton, please be there by 0915. The day is always a good one, so, shall look forward to seeing you there. If any one wishes to check it out, I suggest that you google Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield.

Midweek Run, 8 Sep 2010
The midweek run, originally planned for Wed 8 Sep 10 has been cancelled due to the confliction with the 2010 DD Tour.

Monthly Run, 26 Sep 2010
The September monthly run on Sunday 26 Sep 10 will take us to the Motorcycle Museum at Minden in the Lockyer Valley. There is an entrance charge to the museum of $15.00 per adult and $10.00 per child. It should however be noted that they provide free tea and coffee. For a change (and in accordance with a once heard translations of MG – more grub) we will make this lunch a picnic so please come prepared, with your hamper packed with all the required goodies.

Midweek Run, 12/14 Oct 2010
Wide Bay has suggested that the chapters combine for an Oct midweek run based in Kingaroy. The suggestion has been accepted and the run, scheduled for the period 12/14 Oct, will take the place of the previously scheduled midweek run to Preston. The run will include at least one overnight in Kingaroy. Ron has accepted the running with this event and will be working with the Wide Bay folks to create another memorable midweek away. Further details will be advised as they become available.

Monthly Run, 31 Oct 2010-08-20
The October monthly run will depart Leslie Park at the amended time of 0930. We will move to the Mclean/Heferen residence in Warwick for the required midmorning caffeine hit, aka morning tea. We will set out again at 1100 and John will guide us to the Felsberg Winery and Café at Glen Aplin where we will have lunch, arriving there about 1200 to 1230 The menu changes seasonally, however I have included a sample menu for your information.

For those who would like to know more about the venue check out www.felsberg.com.au. I don’t normally include pics in the newsletters due to the limitations experienced by those of us using dialup but I couldn’t resist the above pic.

DAVID HACK DAY, 2 May, 2010

It seems that the David Hack Day, held each year on the first Sunday in May at the Toowoomba Airport, always brings out the best in the weather and 2010 was no exception. The attendance of the MG fraternity was perhaps a little down on previous years although Brisbane contributed ten cars to add to the eleven from the Darling Downs Chapter. The Gold Coast MG fraternity followed on from last year and was again present in significant numbers. Overall the very impressive turnout of so many vehicles and aircraft must have been very pleasing to the organisers, and ultimately, the Leukaemia Foundation.

Congratulations must go to two MG owners, one a member and the other a prospective member.

Col Schiller, member of the Darling Downs Chapter, was awarded first place in the Classic Saloon competition for his immaculate MG SA and Russell Douglas, prospective member, was awarded first place in the Sports Car pre 1950 competition for his equally immaculate MGBGT. The judges were heard to comment that they really had their work cut out for them as there were so many high quality cars present.
