Club dinner and presentation of trophies held at 'The Pavilion' on Sat 13th Feb.
Over one hundred people attended the Club dinner and presentation of trophies and were rewarded with a night of good company, good food, good speeches and some special presentations in a very pleasant venue.
Some hillclimb awards are made at this function these being special certificates for Club members who have broken records at the hillclimb and the trophies (and money for the winner) for those who won the Top Six. The Top Four of the Top Six were able to attend to collect their trophies.
Guest speaker and presenter of trophies was John Muller who gave an interesting and fascinating talk on how the Club was formed. It started off with four people sitting in an office at Howards (distributors of Nuffield
cars) with John being given the brief to form an MG Car Club of Qld.
Dealers were approached to support the plan thus leading to the involvement of Fred Dyke (Swift Motors at Morningside) and Peter Uscinski of Coorparoo.
John had an album of photos taken by his brother, Graeme, who was also on the first committee of the Club. Graeme had been given the title of 'official Club photographer' and this historic album is now the property of the Club. John also presented the Club with a framed copy of the photo of Swift Motors with all the MGs lined up in front (as on the cover of the January Octagon) which was given to the Club by Yvonne Sullivan (formerly Dyke).
Other special presentations were Honorary Life Membership to David Miles, the Brian Tebble Award for contribution to the hillclimb over the past twelve months which went to Greg Voltz and the Miles E Hunter Award for Centre Achievement which was won by Greg Hannant. A new award was the David Robinson Junior Motorkhana Trophy won by brothers Ryan and Cody Collins with Cody in attendance to collect the beautiful new trophy for both of them. Both the major awards for competition (Best MG and Best All-round) went to Malcolm Spiden.
Many of the trophies bear the names of some of the earliest members of the Club (the G C Reid Trophy, the Miles Hunter Trophy etc) and these became more meaningful after hearing John's talk about the early days of the Club.
John also presented the Club with a photo of the first Club run ever held which was clear evidence of the Club's diversity of car ownership.
